The next iPhone… 4G?

Gizmodo has an exclusive… The iPhone 4G preview

You can’t really get much more convincing than this.

Gizmodo has posted video and pics of the next gen iPhone. Will it be called the 4G or HD? Who knows. But if we are to trust this, it looks like we’ll be getting a camera flash, front facing camera, as well as more storage space plus other goodies. All the things that I am looking for in an upgrade from my 3G this summer. I like the flat back design also. Nice.

Now who left this thing lying around in a bar in Redwood City??

  • Interesting… But word on the street* is that it’ll be 18 months before any European networks will be able to support and even then it’s likely to take longer again to test and roll it out fully. The main reason they’re bringing it in for the US is for those operators like Verizon who use CDMA technology which is currently not compatible with GSM (which about 90% of the mobile operators in the world are using). Hear anything along those lines?

  • I reckon it will only work on WCDMA networks (which are 3G).

4G (or LTE) networks are not developed enough yet. I’d say it will be another 2 years before Apple release an LTE iPhone.

I don’t think Apple will ever release a CDMA compatible iPhone caus it’s only really used in North America.

The iPhone is selling very well on 3G/GSM networks at the min so I reckon they’ll stay on that same frequency for another couple of years for sure. At least until all the major networks have rolled it out.

    * I worked as a software engineer in telecoms myself for over 4 years on WCDMA/LTE
